As I write this, I am looking out of my hotel window which provides an expansive view of the skyline of Kuala Lumpur with its twin towers and KL tower and bustling noises of a major city coming to life. Over the hills behind the city to the east, the sun is rising. Good Friday dawns in Asia.

As I was praying this morning, I thought of you and lifted you before the Lord. My heart was filled with gratitude for each of you. May you be blessed and may you emerge in wholeness so as to become all that God created you to be. I was grateful also that God would consent to use me in His divine purpose to heal, empower, renew, and release the precious people with whom I have shared my life this week. KL Wesley is a vitally important church here – important in the sense that God has called this great church and strategically planted it on a hill in the very center of one of Asia’s great cities. The church has a long and honorable history. But God does not want it to become a museum for what used to be. God wants to release it to become a source of life to this city and nation. It is venerable and wise; it’s people intelligent and committed. They are hungry for God. Their hearts swell with great things that can be done in the Name of Jesus.

I think part of my purpose here has been simply to give them permission to go for God, to worship and serve Him with unbridled passion, and to release them in ministry. The River of Life will flow in KL Wesley to provide healing and wholeness for the people in the fellowship. The River will also flow out into KL and all of Malaysia giving life wherever it flows. It is an honor for me simply to play a part in God’s plan for these wonderful people!

On Wednesday night, I preached on the Glory of Christ and how the Son of God cast off the robe of His Divine Royalty and chose to live among the poor. He emptied Himself and became a servant. This reveals the true heart of God and what makes for genuine greatness. I challenged the church to do as Jesus did – to identify with and give life to the poor and dispossessed. Their hearts rose to meet the Word of God and they knew in the depths of their souls that true Christian service will always focus on the least of these. In this way, KL Wesley will truly be a city set on a hill to give glory to the Father.

May the Lord bless you on this Good Friday. The sacrifice of Christ has opened the way to God and placed humanity once again in a reconciled relationship with the Father. Praise Jesus for His willingness to give His life to the purpose of God which has brought salvation to the world.
