Dear Friends,
The sound of African worship is impossible to describe. It is unique – melodic and rhythmic. Of course, I am in African Pentecostal churches since I work with the Tanzanian Assemblies of God. But it is a joy to worship with them. They love to sing and they love to dance and they love to laugh. There is a lot of joy in their worship. The sound of their praying is loud, sometimes deafining – like the sound of rushing waters perhaps.
These two weeks have been some of the richest experiences of my ministry. Working with the pastors at the conference this week was trying and yet exhilirating. I was lecturing twice and then preaching in the evening. But I was able to pour my life into them. They responded to me because I was a pastor for so many years. I know what they are up against. The feedback from them was confirmation that we had greatly helped and encouraged them.
It has been a pleasure and honor to work with David Mills and Diane Hale who were with me in the pastor’s conference. They, too, used their experience and insight to bless those pastors. Joanne Frantz added a sweet presence to our ministry and helped me so much here and last week in Arusha. We missed her when she left us. Tanya Yaskevitch has similarly blessed us with her joy and her heart for the Lord.
And so, tomorrow, I will preach at Bethel Church here in Morogoro and then I will head to the airport for the overnight flight through Amsterdam to Edinburgh where I will join Sandy and for the next phase of our ministry. Diane and David will be preaching in the area as well. Along with Tanya, they wil remain in Tanzania for a couple more days to visit a National Park and do some shopping. I am so grateful for their partnership with me in the work this past week.
And I am grateful for you, who take the time to read these updates and are interested in what we are doing. Sandy and I join in sending to you our love and blessings. Please do not hesitate to call on us if we can be of assistance to you.
